Cycle Ockhi Live Updates: Defence Minister Reviews Rescue Ops In Thirvanathapuram

 

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Search and rescue operations in the southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep and Minicoy islands continue on day five following Cyclone Ockhi. The Navy deployed 10 naval ships and 8 aircraft, round the clock service late last night for the ongoing rescue operations. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman visited the affected areas in Thiruvananthapuram early this morning. She visited Kanyakumari and other parts of Tamil Nadu yesterday. As of yesterday, a total of 357 people have been rescued across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands by the Indian Coast Guard, Navy and the Air Force. The cyclone is expected to make landfall on the coast of Maharashtra within the next 48 hours. Cyclone Ockhi has claimed atleast 20 lives with hundreds still missing.
