Winter Session Of Parliament Live Updates: Bill To End Triple Talaq To Be Tabled Today

NEW DELHI:  On the 8th Day of the Winter Session of the parliament, the Lok Sabha will see the introduction of a bill, The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2017, to end the controversial Muslim custom of instant Triple Talaq - a practice that allows Muslim men to instantaneously divorce their wives by saying "talaq" thrice. The law will apply to Triple Talaq pronounced in any form through any medium - electronic or written. The Supreme Court has earlier ruled that Triple Talaq also known as "Talaq-e-Biddat" is unconstitutional and is a violation of the fundamental rights of Muslim women. The bill will be introduced by Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj will also make a statement on Kulbhushan Jadhav's meeting with his family in Pakistan.

In addition, the lower House of the parliament is also expected to discuss matters under Rule 377 relating to homosexuality.
